Parish Charity 2024: Solar Power for a South Sudan School
The Parish Council has decided that proceeds from the 2024 charity fund drive will go to projects at the Don Bosco Secondary School in Maridi, Western Equatoria State, South Sudan.
After reopening their mission for healthcare, education and parish life in Maridi in 2010 following a 27-year shutdown due to the civil war, the Salesians of Don Bosco order set up a secondary school in 2015. Since then, they have sought funds both to enable students to attend the school and to improve the facilities.
Money that the International English-Speaking Parish collects in 2024 will help fund installation of a solar-power system for reliable electricity for the school and to set up a science laboratory.
Our biggest fund-raising activities are the booth at the Corpus Christi Festival at Frankfurt’s St. Bartholomew Cathedral and a raffle during our Parish Picnic, with additional money coming from special collections at Mass and other events such as a bake sale at the weekly coffee social at Holy Cross Church.
We thank you for your generosity, and if you’re interested in additional contributions, we will be glad to provide details on the projects we’re involved with as well as the other needs of the school and its pupils.
