Seeking Sustainability
Cutting back on paper and plastic usage
The Parish Council has voted to make the parish's activities more environmentally sustainable, and our community is initially focusing on reducing waste. Current efforts include:
- Encouraging parishioners to use the electronic version of the monthly bulletin. A QR code to obtain the bulletin online is now displayed where the hymnals are distributed at all three church locations, though a limited number of the bulletin's paper edition is still available for those who for a variety of reasons can't use the digital version
- Using porcelain or other reusable mugs at the weekly after-Mass coffee social at Holy Cross in place of disposable paper or plastic cups. The parish's porcelain versions are cleaned by the dishwasher at the end of the social, but parishioners are encouraged to bring their own washable cups to further reduce the social's water usage.
Further steps will be published here as the newly formed Sustainability Committee develops additional ideas to limit the parish's environmental footprint.
